A child is in critical condition after Jacksonville Sheriff’s Officers pulled that child from a pond on the Westside, the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue DepartmenJACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A child is in “very critical condition” after a Jacksonville Sheriff’s Officer pulled that child from a pond on the Westside on Thursday morning.

JSO said a 911 caller reported around 9:45 a.m. that two kids were in a retention pond at the Madelyn Oaks Apartments at 5710 Lenox Avenue.The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department took the child pulled from the pond to the hospital. JSO said it is still investigating how the children ended up in the pond, but said they weren’t home alone and had a caretaker who is in their late teens inside one of the apartments.The officer who rescued the child is fine and went home to dry off her equipment and change her clothes, JSO said.Action News Jax’s Jake Stofan is in the area and will have the latest updates on CBS47 and FOX30 Action News Jax at 5.
