Mexican-born and Oakland, California-based artist Chava Oropesa tapped into his childhood memories to turn the beloved breakfast fav into the Google logo.
Google 's homepage on Thursday may have gotten a few stomachs grumbling in San Antonio . The daily design featured the search engine's logo in the form of a plate of chilaquiles. In honor of what Google called the first widely known chilaquiles recipe published — on May 23, 1962 — Google tapped California artist Chava Oropesa to create the ' Google Doodle,' which had a spotlight on the Google homepage in the U.S. and South America on Thursday.
'Chilaquiles is one of those dishes I grew up with, I still cook it whenever I have a chance.' For those who haven't headed to culinary heaven with a taste of chilaquiles, the breakfast dish is made up of fried tortilla strips simmered in salsa with tasty toppers like avocado, onions and queso fresco. The recipe was originally thought up as a way to repurpose stale corn tortillas, Google said in an article about Thursday's doodle.
