Two people were reportedly on a walk at approximately 11:30 p.m. on Friday when they noticed a small dog stuck in the canal near 400 North 100 East.The chihuahua, named Chica, was "trapped in the water, in distress, and hanging onto the edge of the bank with her front paws," officers said.
The pedestrians were unable to reach Chica through the locked fence and barbed wire, so the Price City Police Department was called.Cpt. Ratcliffe and Officer Tapia arrived quickly and were able to safely retrieve Chica. They said they decided to clean Chica up and groom her while she waited for her owner at the station, who had reportedly been searching for Chica for hours prior.JOIN THE CONVERSATION
"Thank you so much for our citizens that pay attention and call when help is needed," Price officers shared on social media. "Most of all, shoutout to Chica for her strength and will to survive. The determination and persistence she had to get back home is admirable and a lesson we can all learn from."
