Chiefs made two changes following their win over Maritzburg United, as Siyabonga Ngezana returned from suspension and Zitha Kwinika dropped to the bench while Samkelo Zwane took the place of the suspended Yusuf Maart.
Four minutes after going a goal down, Stellies also went a man down after goalkeeper Sage Stephens handled a ball out of the box from Keagan Dolly's chip and was red-carded. Chiefs continued to dominate proceedings, as Stellies dropped deeper in their own half and Dolly had a chance to make it 3-0 on the brink of half-time but fired a low drive just wide after a through ball by Du Preez.
Amakhosi were living dangerously at the back around the hour-mark, as Stellies were spirited to get the equaliser but that opened the game up, with the home side missing some chances.
