The Kansas City Chiefs have been linked to a rather contentious quarterback to replace the injured Patrick Mahomes.

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes tore both his ACL and his LCL during his team's Week 15 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers, and as you would expect, his status for 2026 is very much in question.

Mahomes will probably be back on the field at some point next season, but it's very possible — if not very probable — that he misses some time. Actually, more specifically, Howe thinks Fields should reach out to Kansas City. “Fields should seek out the Kansas City Chiefs, Colts or Vikings. Whether or not Patrick Mahomes will be ready for Week 1, Fields could do a lot worse than Andy Reid’s offense for a spell,“ Howe wrote. Fields signed a two-year, $40 million contract with the New York Jets last March, but the general expectation is that the Jets will cut him at the end of the season. The former first-round pick made nine starts before being benched in favor of Tyrod Taylor. During his time on the field in 2025, Fields has thrown for 1,259 yards, seven touchdowns and one interception while completing 62.7 percent of his passes and posting an 89.5 passer rating. He has also rushed for 383 yards and four scores. Fields originally being his career with the Chicago Bears back in 2021 and spent three seasons with the Bears. While he showed flashes at times, he was unable to find his footing and was ultimately traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers when Chicago decided to move on in favor of Caleb Williams in 2024. The Ohio State product primarily served as Russell Wilson's backup in Pittsburgh, although he did make six starts to begin the 2024 campaign with Wilson sidelined.
