Chiefs' assistant coach Sheppard calls for continuous medical checks on players
The Chiefs’ assistant coach was speaking in the wake of the death of Richards Bay player Siphamandla Mtolo, who died on Tuesday after collapsing while in training with the northern KwaZulu-Natal club.“Our sincere condolences to the Mtolo family and the Richards Bay family. It’s a heavy loss. We’ve lost a soldier.
I haven’t read anything about the reports on his passing and medically what happened. Collapsing on the training pitch could be anything. [We can’t say further] until we get the facts until we know from the postmortem what really happened... but medical checks are very important when you recruit players to get a bit of their medical history.
It was reported that Sylla, who plays for 2020 league champions Racing Club d'Abidjan, fell to the ground at the Stade Robert Champroux during matchday 20 and was later pronounced dead upon arrival at a hospital.
