Condolences and messages of sympathy came from around Canada to the Star Blanket Reserve following Thursday's announcement.

Growing up in the area, Junior said his parents emphasized a need to be cautious and to tread lightly on the grounds. “Our hearts go out to the community members of Star Blanket Cree Nation and all those impacted by these unsettling revelations,” Lisa Broda, the Saskatchewan Advocate for Children and Youth, said in a statement. “We honour the lives of the children who never made it home from the Lebret Indian Industrial School. Every child matters — past, present, and future.”
