Chicago White Sox reliever Aaron Bummer is embracing longer outings, including pitching for two innings for the first time since 2019 earlier this month.
MINNEAPOLIS — Aaron Bummer entered with two on and two out in the fourth inning against the Oakland Athletics on July 2.
“It doesn’t really matter what inning, what kind of role, you’ve just got to go out there and do your job,” Bummer told the Tribune earlier this week in New York. “A lot of the guys are throwing the ball really well and I put myself in a position to go out there as long as I can go out there and provide value by giving two innings or something like that, I’m all for it.
“It’s one of those things you don’t really know what you’ve got until you push the limits a little bit,” Sox manager Pedro Grifol said this week. “He’s always been really a one-inning guy. And we’ve pushed the limits by necessity. And we found out there’s some more in the tank. ... Extremely efficient.
