Chicago Tap Theatre is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. To officially mark two decades of dancing, Chicago Tap Theatre presents a mixed-repertory show called “Tempo, Rhythm and Time” this Saturday and Sunday at The Den Theatre.

A grab-bag of Chicago Tap Theatre’s past and present, the show will include appearances by beloved Chicago Tap Theatre alumni such as Kirsten Uttich and longtime music director Kurt Schweitz. Favorite early works by Yonally, Uttich and Rich Ashworth will be unearthed from the vault. The program also boasts world premieres by artistic associate Sterling Harris and Martin “Tre” Dumas III.
The moment Yonally got to Chicago for keeps, Stegmann announced he was moving. ETC was left in Julie Cartier’s capable hands, but Yonally already had an inkling he might strike out on his own. Artistic director Mark Yonally works with the company as the Chicago Tap Theatre rehearses for its 20th-anniversary show on Feb. 6, 2023.
While Yonally’s contemporaries Bril Barrett and Dumas sought to create financial sustenance for tap dancers on the South Side by forming M.A.D.D. Rhythms, Yonally hubbed CTT up north.
