A longtime Chicago restaurant staple will be closing its Belmont Avenue location after more than 80 years on the block.

"After decades on the 900 block of West Belmont, Ann Sather will close its location at 909 W. Belmont this summer to accommodate the construction of a new apartment building," Ald. Tom Tunney, owner of Ann Sather Restaurants, told NBC Chicago in a statement.While the restaurant chain has numerous locations in the city, Belmont Avenue is the restaurant's original home, where it has been since the 1940s. While the location is closing, it appears the restaurant group plans to keep three locations in Chicago, with Tunney saying he is"actively pursuing a new site for a third restaurant" and"will share updates once a lease is finalized." Tunney said the group's remaining restaurants - at 3415 W. Broadway and 1147 W. Granville -"will remain open and unaffected." The closure comes as a multi-story,"mixed-use development project" plans to open in its place, offering retail space and apartments.
