CPS canceled classes on Friday as wind chills plunged to 25-to-35 degrees below zero, but schools will reopen Monday for classes, the district announced in a letter to parents Sunday morning.“Cold weather is expected to continue next week,” officials said. “We plan to open schools on Monday and want to ensure staff, students, and families have time to prepare. Our teams are working to ensure every school is safe, warm, and dry, and that meal service is ready for students.” According to the National Weather Service, a cold weather advisory will take effect at midnight Monday and continue through noon Monday. Wind chills are expected to drop to 20-to-25 degrees below zero, with air temperatures potentially dropping below zero to start the day. Shifting winds behind a storm system that’s dumped six or more inches of snow on some parts of the city will lead to the frigid conditions, with cold temperatures expected to last for the entire work week.While Chicago Public Schools will be back in session, schools in Crete, Monee, University Park and River Forest have announced they will hold e-learning days on Monday amid the cold weather.
