A Chicago police recruit was shot while driving a car, causing the car to crash on the Northwest Side Monday morning.
Chicago police said a recruit was wounded in a shooting in Lincoln Square, causing him to crash into a parked car.
Police said two men were driving westbound on Gunnison Street near Rockwell Street at about 12:13 a.m. when multiple shots were fired at them.Their vehicle then crashed into a parked car at Talman Avenue, police said. A 21-year-old man suffered a graze wound to the back and was transported to Illinois Masonic Medical Center, police said. Police said the man is a recruit with the department.As the victims tried to escape harm, their vehicle careened into several parked cars, including a Jeep belonging to Donicino Perez.
"I hear 'Boom' and I wake up and I listen to people running outside and talking and that's why I go outside for what's going on and look at my car," Perez said."He did not want to show his face, but there is a shot of his back," he said. "He's a white guy with glasses and a beard. I heard a bunch of car horns going off last night, but I certainly didn't think my car was ruined.
The man who was driving the car, was grazed in the back and taken to a hospital. His passenger was not hurt. It's unclear if the attack was random or targeted.
