Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson and the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) have launched a public awareness campaign called 'Know Your Rights' to educate residents about their legal rights in the face of escalating deportation anxieties. The campaign comes as President Trump's executive orders have raised concerns about immigration enforcement.

CHICAGO (CBS) — Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson is partnering with the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) to launch a public awareness campaign aimed at educating residents about their rights in the face of escalating deportation anxieties within certain communities. This initiative comes as new executive orders signed by the Trump administration have heightened these concerns.

The 'Know Your Rights' campaign will feature informational displays on over 400 video screens located at CTA stops across the city. Commuters will be directed to online resources and practical guidance on navigating interactions with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents. A prominent QR code on the displays will provide direct access to a comprehensive 'Know Your Rights' website. 'Chicago will always be a Welcoming City, not just by ordinance, but also with our inclusive and loving spirit,' said Mayor Brandon Johnson. 'Our 'Know Your Rights' campaign in collaboration with the CTA is a demonstration of our commitment to protecting and supporting all people of Chicago.'The campaign provides a range of resources, including phone numbers for individuals who witness ICE activity, along with recommended steps to take if an ICE officer approaches their home. The launch of this campaign coincides with President Trump's recent signing of several executive orders, including one that seeks to revoke birthright citizenship. This order mandates federal agencies to cease issuing passports and other official documents to children born in the U.S. to parents unlawfully present in the country or those on temporary visas. However, a federal judge issued a temporary injunction against this specific executive order on Thursday. Further legal challenges have emerged, with a lawsuit filed against the birthright citizenship order by a coalition of states, including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Wisconsin
