Hilton Keller, a Chicago man who has spent over 30 years in prison for a 1991 murder and robbery he insists he didn't commit, is being released after a Cook County judge vacated his sentence. The judge ruled Keller's trial unconstitutional, citing undisclosed evidence and a possible role played by a gang member in framing him.
Just two days before Christmas, Hilton Keller, a Chicago man who has served more than three decades behind bars for a crime he insists he didn't commit, is being released.A Cook County judge vacated his sentence after determining that Keller's trial was unconstitutional.Keller, now 52, has been serving a lengthy sentence for the May 1991 armed robbery and murder of Ollie Jones, the owner of a music and game store near 69th and Damen.
Keller's attorneys, representing him in his post-conviction petition, say that critical evidence was never disclosed to Keller's public defenders and that a gang member may have played a role in wrongfully placing the blame on him."He was targeted by a gang leader, who we believe was involved in the murder, and that gang leader wanted to put the murder onto somebody else," said Stuart Chanen, Founder & Partner at Chanen and Olstein, LLP.
