A Chicago man was arrested following a startling discovery by an HVAC worker who found a cache of weapons, explosives, and counterfeit ID documents in his Bronzeville apartment. The incident raised concerns about public safety and shed light on the individual's past history of threats.

A Chicago man was arrested on Monday after an HVAC worker discovered suspicious materials, including guns, explosives, and counterfeit identification documents, in his Bronzeville apartment. The contractor, Melissa Carraway, stated that her heating and air-conditioning company had informed residents about the presence of workers. However, upon entering a unit in the Lake Meadows building at 533 East 33rd Place, she was confronted with a shocking scene.

Carraway explained that she possessed the master key and, upon entering the apartment, encountered numerous items that appeared unusual. She described finding C4 explosives, a rifle, a large quantity of fake IDs, and a collection of items resembling firefighter and police equipment, all seemingly counterfeit. Carraway admitted to feeling uncertain about what to do initially but eventually contacted the Chicago Police Department (CPD). The CPD's bomb unit was dispatched to the scene to secure the apartment. Carraway expressed her concerns, citing recent bombings in New Orleans and Las Vegas that instilled fear in her. The CPD bomb squad confirmed that the apartment had been cleared of all dangerous items and was deemed safe. Authorities, however, refrained from disclosing whether the explosive devices were genuine or replicas. A source revealed that the arrested man is believed to be the same individual who was dismissed from the Chicago Fire Department in 2022 for allegedly threatening a mass shooting. The 2022 incident prompted the deployment of Chicago's SWAT team after Younger, the individual in question, threatened to attack the fire academy. Subsequently, Younger was allegedly enraged by his dismissal from the academy and frightened a relative with threats of committing a mass shooting. This prompted the Chicago SWAT team's intervention, leading to Younger's apprehension from his vehicle
