A fast-moving weather system will bring light snow to the Chicago area overnight, with snowfall beginning after 3 a.m. and tapering off by 9 a.m. on Tuesday. Most areas can expect a dusting to an inch of accumulation, likely causing slippery roads and delays for the morning commute. Temperature s will also plunge into the single digits overnight, with wind chills making it feel as cold as -10 degrees.

After the snow clears, Tuesday will be partly cloudy with highs only in the mid to upper teens. Wind chills will remain close to zero throughout the day. Wednesday will also be cold, with highs around 20 degrees under sunny skies. A noticeable warming trend will take hold later this week. By Thursday, highs will climb to the upper 30s, reaching near 40 degrees by Friday under mostly cloudy skies. However, the reprieve will be short-lived. A small chance of rain or snow showers is in the forecast for Saturday, with highs dropping back to the lower 30s. Bitter cold returns next week, with highs on Sunday in the teens and single-digit temperatures expected by Monday
