Joe Miñoso, who plays Joe Cruz on Chicago Fire, discusses his character's decision to forgo a lieutenant's promotion and remain at Firehouse 51. Cruz's internal conflict stems from his desire for leadership and financial security, but ultimately his sense of belonging and familial bonds outweigh these aspirations.

Chicago Fire star Joe Miñoso has revealed key insights into his character, firefighter Joe Cruz , and his decision not to pursue the lieutenant’s test, choosing to instead remain at Firehouse 51. Chicago Fire season 13 continues to follow the personal lives of firefighters, paramedics, and rescue teams. Miñoso's discernment follows years of Cruz’s growth on Chicago Fire, where he’s become a cornerstone of Squad 3 and a devoted family man.

However, as these tensions resolve, Cruz opts for stability and camaraderie at Firehouse 51, prioritizing his sense of belonging and familial bonds. His decision highlights his commitment to balancing his responsibilities at work and at home. I think Cruz just wanted to feel in that moment when he was talking about taking the test and leaving the firehouse. I think he just wanted to feel needed or wanted. He felt a little bit like he was disrespected for the work that he did when Severide wasn't aroun
