The Cubs' pursuit was first reported by Michael Cerami of Bleacher Nation, with Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic and Jon Heyman of MLB Network later confirming the deal.BREAKING: Cubs are finalizing a deal to acquire SP Edward Cabrera from the Miami Marlins.The Cubs had been seeking a cost-controlled pitcher via trade throughout the offseason, and it appears that they are on the verge of landing one in Cabrera, who will turn 28 early in the 2026 season. Cabrera had an 8-7 record with a 3.53 ERA during the 2025 season for the Marlins, with 150 strikeouts and 48 walks in 137.2 innings of work. His WHIP was 1.228, his lowest mark since 2022, and he has maintained nearly 10 strikeouts per nine innings over reach of the last three seasons.He is set to earn $3.75 million during the 2026 season, and will be eligible for arbitration for the following two seasons, potentially giving the Cubs three years of control on his contract.
