Two shootings in Chicago's Loop on Friday night left one person dead and at least eight others injured, police said.
On a night when Chicago ans were celebrating the start of the holiday season, chaos erupted after two shootings left one person dead and multiple teenagers injured in the city's downtown.The two shootings happened just an hour apart on Friday night, according to the Chicago Police Department.
Officers responded to the first shooting a little before 10 p.m. in the 100 block of N. State Street where they found a large group on the sidewalk.They heard gunshots and saw the large group begin to flee the scene. Officers then found several people who had been shot, including:Ald. Brian Hopkins reported on social media that "300 juveniles" were "rioting" in the Loop at the time of the shooting. He also said CPD officers were "attacked and injured with mace and stun guns" leading to one officer being hospitalized, but CPD has not confirmed that information as of early Saturday morning.Under an hour later, officers responded around 10:40 p.m. to the 100 block of S. Dearborn where they found two people who had been shot.An unidentified male victim was shot and taken to Northwestern Hospital where he died, police said.A second victim, an 18-year-old man was shot in the left and also taken to Northwestern in serious condition. He was unable to provide details about the shooting to investigators.No one was in custody in connection with the shooting.It was unclear if the two shootings were related.
