The Chicago City Council on Wednesday blocked a proposal which would have allowed city police officers to assist with federal immigration enforcement efforts.
Ald. Ray Lopez, D-District 15, the main sponsor of the proposal, took to X to advocate for the proposal. “This week I am very mindful that we are one week out from the presidential election,” he said in November. “The outcome of the election is not one that we were hoping for in many ways, to say the least.”
