Chicago experiences a record-breaking streak of warmer-than-average days, but a significant cold front is on its way, bringing the possibility of snow.
Every day this year has been warmer than normal based on official Chicago data at O’Hare. That’s right. Even yesterday ended up being 1 degree warmer than normal. That streak ends today and will likely continue for at least another week, possibly two, although the magnitude of the cold next week looks a little bit less intense than it did a few days ago. This morning, we open with a few flurries moving south through the area.
They should be out of here by mid-morning, followed by partly sunny skies and cold temperatures topping out in the mid 20s. Tonight will be mostly clear and very cold with lows not far from 10. Tomorrow will be mostly sunny and quite cold with highs in the low 20s. All signs continue to point to a significant storm system to our south Sunday into Monday. This storm, however, will be close enough to bring some snow to our area. Likely a couple of inches for our south counties. The wildcard remains whether any lake-effect snow can get going Sunday night and Monday pointed towards the Illinois shore. After that storm system departs, it will be cold all next week with highs mainly in the 20s
