The Chicago Botanic Garden, located in suburban Glencoe, is showing its support for neighboring Highland Park by offering free admission and parking through Sunday.

Entry to the garden will be free 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., with no reservations required, Wednesday through Sunday.

In the aftermath of Monday’s shooting during Highland Park's Fourth of July parade, the garden was closed to the public while authorities conducted a manhunt for the suspected shooter. While other venues, including nearby Ravinia, remain shuttered, the garden opted to re-open its doors to serve as a place of respite.

Community members expressed their gratitude on social media, thanking the garden for “providing a refuge and hope in the days ahead.”
