The Chicago Bears continue their search for a new head coach, this time holding an interview with former Stanford head coach David Shaw on Tuesday. Shaw, who most recently served as a senior personnel executive for the Denver Broncos, brings a wealth of experience at the collegiate level to the table. Though he was fired by Stanford at the end of the 2022 season, Shaw compiled a stellar 96-54 record with the Cardinal, including two Rose Bowl victories and five double-digit win seasons.
The Bears are reportedly set to interview another high-profile candidate, former Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy, on Wednesday. Initial attempts to interview McCarthy last week were reportedly thwarted by the Cowboys, but with McCarthy now a free agent, the Bears are expected to capitalize on the opportunity. McCarthy is expected to be in Chicago to meet with team officials and discuss the direction of the franchise, with a particular focus on developing young quarterback Caleb Williams. McCarthy boasts an impressive 174-112-2 record over 18 seasons with the Green Bay Packers and Dallas Cowboys, including a Super Bowl championship with the Packers in 2011. He also holds a 11-11 record in 22 career postseason games. In addition to Shaw and McCarthy, the Bears have already conducted interviews with a host of other candidates, including former NFL head coaches Ron Rivera, Pete Carroll, and Mike Vrabel, as well as current NFL coordinators Aaron Glenn, Ben Johnson, Mike Kafka, Anthony Weaver, and Drew Petzing.
