James Steffy, 41, admitted to 35 charges including DUI, burglary, and theft after a six-month crime spree across central Pennsylvania. Steffy stole multiple vehicles, tools, and other items, totaling thousands of dollars in losses. The spree ended in January 2021 when Steffy crashed a stolen vehicle under the influence of fentanyl, injuring himself and another driver.
A Chester County man has pleaded guilty to charges stemming from a six-month “ crime spree ” across central Pennsylvania , according to the Lancaster County District Attorney's Office.
The Lancaster County District Attorney stated that Steffy stole multiple vehicles, tools and other various items from businesses in 2020. He reportedly stole two ATVs, several cars, trailers, box trucks and pickup trucks. The string of thefts totaled in thousands of dollars of stolen items, merchandise and vehicles.
The dubbed “crime spree” ended in January of 2021 with Steffy’s arrest following a crash on the 900 block of Rohrerstown Road. Authorities said Steffy had crashed a stolen vehicle while under the influence of fentanyl, leaving him and the other involved driver with serious injuries. Steffy is court ordered to pay $52,000 in restitution for his crimes that the Assistant District Attorney called “inexcusable” and “appalling.”
