Putin, it will be remembered, firmly believed he could easily and quickly win the war. To understand whether Putin’s gamble was a wise or a foolish one, we must explore the relevant findings of communication researchers. For many years mass media scholars have— a theory first developed by Maxwell McCombs, a faculty member in the University of Texas at Austin’s School of Journalism.
