Preceded by the Westlake Institute for Advanced Study, Westlake University is creating a stimulating, world-class environment for research and education in science, engineering and technology, and life sciences.

The predecessor of Westlake University is Westlake Institute for Advanced Study. Founded by scientists including Yigong Shi, Shiyi Chen, Jianwei Pan and Yi Rao, Westlake Institute for Advanced Study was established in Hangzhou on December 10, 2016.
