Chelsea have agreed a deal to sign goalkeeper Gabriel Slonina from MLS side Chicago Fire on a six-year deal.

Chelsea had been in contact over a move for Slonina for months, including before the sale of the club to a consortium led by American Todd Boehly. That sale understandably put a pause on talks, but they picked back up in recent weeks. It is believed Slonina was first being worked on earlier in the year by former technical and performance advisor Petr Cech, who was also key to first-choice goalkeeperDespite some tentative interest from Spanish side Real Madrid, Chelsea was always the preferred destination for Slonina, who has represented the United States at Under-15, Under-16, Under-17 and Under-20 level.
