Smoke alarms can save lives, but only working smoke alarms can protect your family.
CLEVELAND, Ohio - As daylight saving time approaches, Cleveland Fire is reminding residents to check the batteries on their smoke alarms as they change their clocks this weekend.“Smoke alarms can save lives, but only working smoke alarms can protect your family,” Cleveland Fire said in a press release.“A house fire is often a race against the clock.
Cleveland Fire offered the following tips to make sure your smoke alarms are in the right place and working: You can check your smoke alarms by pressing the button on the face of the alarm until it makes a sound indicating it is working. For a smoke alarm out of reach, try using a broomstick or ask a family member, neighbor or friend for assistance.
If your smoke alarm does not make a sound or is over 10 years old, Cleveland Fire recommends replacing it.Cleveland Fire had partnered with the American Red Cross for Operation Save a Life providing free smoke alarms with 10-year lithium batteries installed by Cleveland Fire.
