For people 65 and older, one of the benefits of being insured through Medicare is you qualify for a free Annual Wellness Visits with your Primary Care Provider. Seeing your trusted provider regularly can help you stay healthy now and in the future.
If you’ve been enrolled in Medicare Part B for more than 12 months, you’re eligible for one AWV each year. And if you just enrolled in Medicare, you're eligible for a free "welcome" visit. “A Medicare Annual Wellness visit helps your provider monitor your well-being and detect and treat new health concerns as early as possible. This is different from your routine physical exam, so specify which one you need when scheduling your appointment,” said Angel Lybbert, MD, a geriatrician with Intermountain Utah Valley Senior Medicine Clinic.A questionnaire to help your provider assess your health.Reviewing your medical history, risk factors or treatment options for any current conditions.
For example, do you want to make advance directives for who can make medical decisions on your behalf if you are unable to make them yourself? Or would you like someone to come to your home to make suggestions on how to make your home safer and prevent falls? It’s important to schedule your next annual visit as soon as possible. Many people schedule next year’s AWV right after they complete this year’s visit. This can help you stay healthy and make the most of your Medicare coverage.
