OpenAI offers two distinct ways to interact with its ChatGPT chatbot using your voice: Standard and Advanced. Standard mode, accessible to all users, relies on a text-only transcript of your voice input. In contrast, Advanced mode, available to both free and Pro users, leverages multi-modal processing, enabling ChatGPT to understand not just your voice, but also accompanying video and images.
This opens up a range of functionalities, such as screen sharing, allowing ChatGPT to guide you through app usage on your phone.Advanced Voice is designed to provide a more natural conversation experience. OpenAI claims that its multi-modal capabilities allow ChatGPT to produce a more natural voice and better interpret non-verbal cues. However, access to Advanced Voice features, particularly video, screen share, and image upload, is currently limited in certain regions, including the European Union, Switzerland, Iceland, Norway, and Liechtenstein.To utilize Standard mode, simply tap the microphone icon next to the Message bar. Grant the ChatGPT app microphone access if prompted. Once recording begins, tap the checkmark icon to initiate processing. To discard your input, press the x icon. For Advanced mode, tap the waveform icon next to the Message bar. Mute your microphone by tapping the microphone icon. Exit Advanced mode at any time by pressing the x icon. To share a screen, photo, or video, tap the three-dots icon and select the desired option. Note that these features may not be available in all countries or app versions.When you first use Advanced Voice mode, you'll be asked to choose a voice tone for ChatGPT from nine options.
