Last month, Biden was criticized for saying during an interview with Charlamagne tha God that “if you have a problem figuring out whether you’re for me or Trump, then you ain’t black.” Biden laterfor his remark, saying, in part, “I was much too cavalier. I know that the comments have come off like I was taking the African-American vote for granted, but nothing could be further from the truth. I've never, ever done that and I've earned it every time I've run.
Asked about the controversy by Colbert on Wednesday, Charlamagne tha God said he felt like Biden was trying to make a “great-great-granddad joke” and wasn’t offended by the remark. But he did take issue with Biden’s response, specifically the former VP’s claim that he was baited. “I didn’t bait you,” Charlamagne tha God said. “Vice President Biden volunteered that fish. I didn’t throw no bait out there for that fish whatsoever.”
He added, “I didn’t like him saying he was being too cavalier. That word is defined as not showing much concern. He needed to show concern about the black community.”
