Two individuals are facing charges after the unattended medical complications resulted in the death of a 10-year-old girl under their care. The incident occurred at a residence on Main St. on April 10, 2022. Jacob Snyder and Kimberly Johnson, who were present at the scene, provided conflicting statements regarding the child's death. Snyder exhibited unusual behavior, claiming the death was natural and attempting to hug a PSP Trooper.

According to court records, PSP Lykens first responded to the couple's home on the 500 block of Main St.
on Apr. 10 of 2022 at around 8 a.m. for a report of an unresponsive child. When authorities arrived at the home, they report that Jacob Snyder and Kimberly Johnson were both on scene to discuss what happened to the child who was living with them. During their interviews with officers, Snyder allegedly kept stating that the young victim's death was "natural" while pacing back and forth. While another PSP Trooper attempted to introduce himself to Snyder, Snyder allegedly tried to hug him, stating "I can see this is really bothering you." Johnson later told authorities the child's extensive medical history, saying that she needed multiple medical devices to help her stay alive, including a tracheostomy tube, a pulse-oximetry machine, and a feeding tube. Troopers also asked Snyder what the victim's diagnosis was and what medical attention was needed for it. Snyder relayed to officers that the victim was diagnosed with Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome, but that he did not agree with said diagnosis. He then stated that he and Johnson were responsible for taking care of the girl, saying that he would help with her feeding tube and cleaning her tracheostomy tube. When questioned if anyone else was home at the time, the pair said several other children they were responsible for were there including Snyder's nephew. Officials say that they asked if the victim was ever left alone, prompting Snyder to state "the only thing that matters is that there's someone there with her to dial 911." After the pair went to sleep the previous night, authorities say the victim started to have complications that alerted Snyder's nephew the following morning. When later asked by police, Johnson admitted that Snyder's nephew was not trained to care for the victim, acknowledging that it was criminally negligent to leave the victim without a properly trained adult. Interviewing the other children in the home revealed to law enforcement that Johnson and Snyder would delegate care of the victim to them even though they were not equipped to handle it. Snyder has also mentioned to officers that he himself was not equipped to care for the victim, previously lying to hospital staff about his qualifications that lead to him falsely being "trake certified." Further investigation determined that Johnson and Snyder also irresponsibly left the victim alone with the children on multiple occasions. An autopsy report for the victim determined that she passed away due to complications of asphyxia, with her death being ruled a homicide. PSP later arrested the pair two years later in 2024 on Apr. 10. as their lengthy investigation determined that they were unable to handle the medically complex care of the victim. Johnson and Snyder have been both charged with involuntary manslaughter and endangering the welfare of a child.
