Not the year anyone would have hoped for from him.
Coming into the new season, Los Angeles Chargers running back Austin Ekeler was seen as one of the better options in the fantasy football world for running backs. He has been a touchdown machine over the last few years, and it was expected to happen again.
He was great in week one but then missed multiple weeks due to injury. Since his return to the field from injury, Ekeler has struggled to find any sort of consistency in his game. His play has shown him to have found it difficult to navigate things, and it has seen him take a major downturn in terms of his fantasy football value.
“After averaging 7.3 yards per attempt in Week 1 against the Miami Dolphins, Ekeler has averaged just 2.33 yards per attempt over the past three games, and he’s finished inside of the top 24 RBs just once over that time frame. If Ekeler is not going to continue to find the end zone at an other-worldly rate, he’s going to take a tumble down the rest-of-season rankings to a low-end RB1 that will need heavy involvement in the receiving game to provide value.
“After scoring a jaw-dropping 38 total touchdowns the prior two seasons, Ekeler has just scored two total touchdowns so far in four games played this year. Additionally, he’s seen his efficiency on the ground plummet since returning from his injury.”There is still plenty of time for Ekeler to turn things around, and maybe this is just rust from him missing time. But he needs to figure it out soon; otherwise, he will be a throwaway in the fantasy community for the rest of the year.
