The Chargers bucked a third-set hiccup and edged the Capital1 Solar Spikers, 25-18, 27-25, 22-25, 25-14, while the HD Spikers whipped last conference’s finalists Choco Mucho Flying Titans, 25-18, 25-21, 25-16.
Akari and Cignal dismantled their respective rivals Thursday night, July 18, to snare their first wins in the Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.
Both teams struggled with their plays with the Chargers giving up 36 points on errors and Capital1 fumbling with 34, but Akari found ways to clinch the victory with their more aggressive offense. Later in the nightcap, Cignal took advantage of the absence of Choco Mucho top scorer Sisi Rondina and Chery Nunag due to national team duties as Maria Jose Perez took charge by erupting for 22 points on 19 kills and two aces.
