'It's ruining our lives': Chaos on Lytham road plagued by tailbacks as £5m project drags on

Residents and visitors to the Fylde coast have blasted temporary traffic lights that are "ruining people's lives" as work continues on a £5m sports village.

"As we approached the junction with [Common Edge Road] we noticed a huge queue and wondered if it was just because of lots of people heading to the coast because of the sunny weather," Charley told LancsLive. "Then as we very slowly inched our way along the road we realised that up ahead was a set of temporary traffic lights.

As part of the £5m project Blackpool Council is also making improvements to the Division Lane East junction including widening the entrance, reducing the gradient of the road and improving the street lighting. The council said these changes will allow better access for road users and pedestrians when using this junction.

Blackpool Council has previously thanked motorists for their patience during the necessary upgrade to the junction. The council have added that "efforts have been made to reduce the impact where possible but the junction is already over capacity and needs improving regardless".
