South Houston quarterback Kam'ron Webb finds himself in the grasp of Joseph Escalante during second-half action Thursday night. The Trojans are good, good at teasing their fans with rallies and coming within a touchdown of their opponents, but no closer.
South Houston had two chances to force a third tie, but couldn't find paydirt. The first opportunity was enough to cause head coach Patrick Longstreet to chew on nails. Quarterback Kam'ron Webb completed a 41-yard pass and had the team perched on the 13 of Channelview only to see passes on third and fourth down in the end zone fall incomplete.
"We couldn't punch it in. We fell a few plays short. We had a lot of guys playing, we had a lot of guys banged up. It was a great ball game. They're a great offense, great defense. Their quarterback put a couple of deep balls on the money. It was a battle of two really good quarterbacks in the district. It hurts for the kids, it hurts for the coaches," Longstreet said."But we gotta get up tomorrow and come to work.
Then immediately on the other side of intermission, Clark-James had his greatest strike of the game and maybe of the entire season so far. His 88-yarder to Neal was perfect and Neal's quickness did the rest, scoring untouched with 6:53 left in the third quarter.
