DOTHAN, Ala. - As residents prepare to set their clocks forward Sunday, the Dothan Fire Department is urging homeowners to do one more thing: change their smoke alarm battery. They recommend checking smoke alarms twice a year and testing them monthly.
Deputy Chief Chris Etheredge of the Dothan Fire Department said the Daylight Saving Time clock change serves as a built-in reminder to swap the battery. “It’s a catchy phrase that we all remember, that when we change our clock, we change our battery,” Etheredge said. “The likelihood of surviving a home fire is 200% greater if you have a working smoke alarm in your home. So knowing that you change that battery and that it works, you test it monthly, is critical to survivability in a home should you have a fire.”Download the WTVY News4 app to get alerts and stories the moment they are published.
