Alabama basketball is expected to have a new practice facility completed by 2026.

The physical properties committee for the University of Alabama System Board of Trustees met Thursday in Birmingham and voted to authorize a modification to plans for the new basketball facility, which is in the process of being built next to Coleman Coliseum. The full board of trustees will meet Friday to officially approve the modification.

The modification: a courtyard for the men’s players, and a separate courtyard on the other side of the building for women’s players. These will be used as gathering areas for players as well as for recruiting purposes. The additions will cost about $500,000, which will be paid from the Crimson Standard capital initiative. The project originally had a price tag of $58.67 million, with about $56.95 million for the upgrades. With the additions of the courtyards, the overall price tag will increase to $59.18 million.

The revision approved Thursday was to Stage III. The project also received Stage IV approval this past November. The facility, expected to be about 48,883 gross square feet, will be for men’s basketball training and development. The new gym will be connected to the current men’s practice facility. The women‘s team will take over the facility that Nate Oats’ team uses now once the new facility is completed.. “It’s where they teach and they develop.
