Tony O'Neill, who was at both the match in Paris last year and the FA Cup semi-final in Sheffield in 1989 said a great day out quickly turned into a 'nightmare' as police began teargassing fans.
"For a lot of people it was probably the first away game they've ever been to and they were panicking, you know, they wanted to get into the game.
He said:"I think it did help a lot of people because some were starting to panic, you know some were climbing over a perimeter wall to get into the stadium. He told Sky News:"The authorities, various French ministers, UEFA itself did a targeted campaign before the match even kicked off to blame supporters.
