Construction, Forestry, Maritime, Mining and Energy Union have gathered outside of New South Wales Parliament House demanding a ban to stop the importation and manufacturing of engineered stone, believed to be killing Australian workers.

The protest comes ahead of the Federal and State Work, Health and Safety Minister's meeting on Friday. The engineered stone commonly used in Australian homes, is coming under increased scrutiny due to its links with silicosis, a lung disease caused by breathing in fine particles of silica dust, which is produced when the engineered stone is cut into.

The union is also calling for the introduction of a national health monitoring and silicosis screening for workers exposed to silica dust.
