Donut Lab launches solid-state batteries ready for OEM use, powering 2026 Verge Motorcycles with fast charging and high energy density.
Donut Lab has introduced what it calls the world’s first all- solid-state battery ready for immediate OEM vehicle production, marking a major milestone for electric mobility.The company says the new high-performance solid-state Donut Battery is already operating in real-world conditions and will power all 2026 model Verge Motorcycles on the road starting in Q1 2026.
Unlike solid-state batteries that have remained confined to labs and prototypes, Donut Lab’s technology is being deployed directly into production vehicles, including the Verge TS Pro and Verge TS Ultra.The company positions the launch as a decisive break from years of delays and unmet promises around solid-state battery commercialization.According to Donut Lab, the battery delivers an energy density of 400 Wh/kg, supports full five-minute charging to 100% capacity, and allows safe, repeated full discharge without degradation.The design eliminates flammable liquid electrolytes and thermal runaway risks, addressing long-standing safety concerns associated with conventional lithium-ion batteries.Durability is another key claim. Donut Lab says the battery can deliver up to 100,000 charge cycles with minimal capacity fade, while retaining more than 99% capacity in temperatures ranging from –30°C to above 100°C , without ignition or performance loss.Solid state arrives now“While the advantages are obvious, the future of solid state batteries has been a moving target constantly delayed when companies working in electrification are asked about when they will become a reality,” said Donut Lab CEO Marko Lehtimäki.“At Donut Lab, our answer on solid state batteries being ready for use in OEM production vehicles is now, today, not later.”Lehtimäki added that the company waited to make the announcement until the technology was fully validated in vehicles operating on public roads.“Donut Lab has engineered a new high performance solid state Donut Battery that can be scaled to major production volumes and seen now in real world use in the Verge Motorcycles bikes out on the road in Q1.”Beyond performance, Donut Lab emphasizes materials and manufacturing. The battery is made from abundant, geopolitically safe materials, avoids rare elements, and is claimed to cost less than lithium-ion alternatives.Its modular architecture allows custom sizes, voltages, and geometries, enabling unconventional uses such as structural integration into vehicle frames, drones, or chassis designs.The battery builds on Donut Lab’s earlier Donut Motor innovation, an in-wheel motor system first unveiled at CES 2025 that removes traditional drivetrain components.The company says more than 200 OEMs are currently engaged in the development and integration of its motor technology.From lab to roadsAt CES 2026, Donut Lab is showcasing multiple partnerships that demonstrate how its battery and motor technologies translate into production-ready platforms.Verge Motorcycles becomes the first production vehicle manufacturer to deploy solid-state batteries, with charging times under 10 minutes and a long-range variant offering up to 600 kilometers per charge.Other collaborations include WATTEV’s modular electric skateboard platform, Cova Power’s smart trailers that cut diesel use by up to 54 percent, and defense-focused projects with ESOX Group, where safety and performance under extreme conditions are critical.“When we first introduced the Donut Motor last year at CES, many didn’t believe it was possible until they saw the technology working out on the road,” Lehtimäki said.“As of today, these batteries are real, in production vehicles, and represent the future of electric mobility.”With solid-state batteries now operating on public roads, Donut Lab is positioning itself not just as a technology innovator, but as a company accelerating the commercial reality of next-generation energy storage across transportation, infrastructure, and beyond.You can explore all CES 2026 stories and coverage from the IE team by clicking here.
