Pennsylvania launched a program this year that provides stipends to student teachers to pay them for what historically has been an unpaid internship but it doesn't have enough funding to pay stipends to all student teachers.
University of Pittsburgh-Greensburg student Amber Bloom , spoke at a Capitol Rotunda news conference in April, to celebrate the launch of Pennsylvania's student teacher stipend program. The $30 million put into the program isn't enough to give all student teachers a stipend and that is among the reasons Cumberland Valley School District has chosen not to participate. CV has 13 student teachers this fall but only five were notified they were eligible for stipends.
