The initial assaults occurred Nov. 4, 2021, after football practice, the lawsuit said.

Three older members of the Tamaqua Area High School football team attempted to sexually assault Student 1 inside the district’s “Football House” locker room using a banana as part of a hazing tradition, according to the lawsuit.

Later on, Student 1 saw one of his attackers in the school, whom he had been assured was suspended pending a hearing that had not yet taken place, according to court documents. Parents 1 and 2 said the attacker’s mother is a teacher in the district. “There is no sexual connotation to any of the charges… There is no sexual assault… The sexual part of this is not true… The rumors are not true…” the fathers said school board President Larry Wittig told the public.
