Carlisle residents stood in silence for 21 minutes in honor of the 21 victims at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, Texas.

Since 1978, Linda Schultz and her husband have made it their responsibility to fight for change by participating in social activism marches across the country. Before the 21-Minute Circle of Silence event at Thornwald Park in Carlisle, Schultz along with her husband held posters that read “Protect Kids Not Guns” and “Fear Has No Place In Our Schools.”

Schultz along with other 30 Carlisle area residents gathered around a circle of 21 chairs. A white rose was placed in each seat to signify the 19 children and two teachers massacred by a gunman on Tuesday at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. In the middle of the circle was a pile of colorful teddy bears, gathered to send to children experiencing grief in Uvalde.

“Every child is unique. I was thinking of what special qualities that they can no longer give and that our world is robbed from what each one of them can become,” she said. “I was just trying to focus on the fact that there was a real child sitting in every one of these chairs.
