Families were welcomed back Thursday to a Central District day care hit by gunfire, now replete with a larger police presence in the neighborhood.

A Seattle Police Department mobile precinct on Oct. 19, 2023, is parked across the street from the A 4 Apple Learning Center day care, which was near the site of a drive-by shooting in Seattle's Central District, at 23rd and Jackson, on Oct. 16, 2023.

“We want to make sure that people know that we want you to put the guns down,” Tiny Tots Development Center CEO Angela Hicks-Maxie stated. District 3 City Council candidate Joy Hollingworth said she wants to see an all-hands-on-deck approach.Washington said she's excited to hear her neighbor's ideas for added safety.

Seattle Police Chief Adrian Diaz on Wednesday addressed the need for more resources to protect this vulnerable population.
