With snow falling across southeast Texas, CenterPoint Energy is asking residents in Galveston to conserve energy.CenterPoint Energy notified the city of Galveston that they are having load capacity issues.The power company is asking for all of Galveston to conserve energy to help make sure electricity is able to reach the west end.CenterPoint says the highest concern is for areas west of 61st Street. There are about 170 meters without power across the island due to issues.
The city says that all municipal systems are working as designed.The city is telling residents that there is no guarantee that power will go out, but they are taking actions out of an abundance of caution."Due to the unpredictability of the ability of CenterPoint to provide power throughout the event", the city of Galveston is opening a warming and charging center.The McGuire Dent Recreation Center will open at 11 a.m. for those in need.
