After being knocked down last year, Peoria Centennial football is back. But can it beat No. 1 Peoria Liberty?
But can it beat No. 1 Peoria Liberty? The Coyotes will take their best shot Friday night at 8-0 Liberty, a team that rarely makes a mistake and forces opponents into lots of turnovers.
A common opponent the two teams have is Phoenix Sandra Day O'Connor. Centennial led for most of that game, before O'Connor scored late to take the lead, only for the Coyotes to rally on running backLiberty was running the clock on O'Connor by halftime last week, coasting to a 53-0 rout. This is a complete flip from last season when the Coyotes had a rare losing season. Not just a losing season but a 3-8 season, in which they were one-and-done in the 6A playoffs. It was the first time in three years of the Open playoffs that the Coyotes were left out of the elite eight.
Taylor knows his team is a huge underdog against Liberty, a school Centennial beat for the Division II championship in 2014. Liberty is now the top dog in the Northwest Valley. And it is ranked in the top 25 nationally for the first time, moving up eight spots to No. 16 by MaxPreps this week."High expectations often times brings high anxiety," Taylor said."If we're going to lose by four , then we don't have a lot to worry about.
