McKenna is a free agent after leaving Nottingham Forest and has Champions League experience after FC Copenhagen loan.
The former Aberdeen star is a free agent after leaving Nottingham Forest , where he found himself frozen out of the team last season. A loan stint at FC Copenhagen allowed the Scotland international to get some Champions League experience under his belt ahead of joining up with Steve Clarke's squad for Euro 2024 .
And while McKenna's full focus will be on toppling hosts Germany in Friday night's opening game in Munich, he will no doubt have things going on in the background as he looks to sort a new club for the upcoming campaign. Both Celtic and Rangers have been linked, with Parkhead arguably a more realistic destination. And given the lack of depth Brendan Rodgers has at centre back, Grant is all for his former club at least exploring the possibility of bringing McKenna in.
“I think before he went down south, I know he would have got more money or whatever, I would have signed him for Celtic or Rangers," Grant told Go Radio. "Absolutely. They were looking for centre-halves at the time and if I was at Celtic and Rangers and it was affordable, I would have definitely taken him.
“100%. I would still look at him . The thing is Liam Scales has done exceptionally well and went in to replace Scott at Aberdeen, so he’s done exceptionally well. But if you’re wanting to bolster your squad and think you need a few players, and if Celtic lose the other two younger centre-backs, he’s definitely somebody I would look at that. He’s got a bit of character about him.”
