He testified that he saw up to what Charles wrote about being cremated, and believed the remainder was added afterward, when he wasn’t there. He suggested having a dedicated classroom space would give him more oversight over what happens on the computers. Straightnose told the jury that inmates who speak about suicidal thoughts are stripped of their clothing, put in a “baby doll” — a protective smock to prevent self-harm — and moved to another cell.Article content
The jail’s deputy director of operations, Andrew van Zandbergen, said provincial jails conducted a ligature audit to find points that could be used for self-hanging and towel bars and shower rods in the shower area were removed. The jury previously heard that a ligature was used in Charles’s death.
