Celebrity stylist Micaela Erlanger, who works with Lupita Nyong'o and Meryl Streep, is drawing on her expertise as a mentor to up-and-coming stylists through TJ Maxx's Styled by Runway program. Erlanger speaks to PEOPLE about her experience and reflects on her career thus far.
The stylist, who is working with TJ Maxx on their Styled by Runway incubator program, says mentorship was 'transformative and pivotal' for her — and hopes to do that for othersCatherine Santino is a Style Writer-Reporter at PEOPLE. Erlanger describes the five women in the program — Kinsey Ranee, Breja’e Washington, Shae Johnson, Afi Maita and Patricia Klein — as "some of the most motivated and creative stylists I’ve had the privilege to mentor.""They have such a diverse range of ideas and perspectives, and each brings something so special and different to the table!" she adds. "The way they think about fashion is so unique to each of them and I really appreciate that.
"We made every best dressed list," the stylist remembers. "It was so exciting, and I even remember picking up PEOPLE and seeing her pictures where I was credited as the stylist behind her looks, and how much that meant to me." Through it all, Erlanger never stopped learning or seeking mentorship — a principle that led her to the Styled by Runway mentorship program.
